By now your curiosity must be peaked as to who this mysterious author might be, and what background she might have in the business industry.Even my friends get confused about what exactly I've done and studied because inadvertently I've become a perpetual student, as you will see below. Allow me, then, to give a little bit of background so that the readers of this blog can understand where I am coming from, experience, education, and even maybe personality wise.
In education, I have a Bachelor's of Science in Management, a Master's of Science in Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Management in Homeland Security. After all of that, I decided to go back and get my Bachelor's in Accounting. My accounting degree will be completed by 2013, just a few months after my 25th birthday. I think it's what I wanted to do all along; sometimes, though, we have to take other roads to find what we truly want.
In terms of experience, I've worked at a mom and pop music shop, and for the last five years I've been working in the banking industry in retail banking. I promise, no discussions of banks or the banking industry unless it actually pertains to a point I'm trying to make on an accounting or tax subject. It will make it easier for me to focus if I have restrictions since, as I mentioned before, I am absentminded and will go off on tangents without warning if not reigned in. Now, back to business. I am glad to have had the opportunity so far to work with small and big businesses and see how different each can really be; they've each been great life learning experiences.
I've also been a tax preparer for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). It is a fantastic, extremely rewarding program. If you haven't heard of it, have an accounting or tax background, or just want to help people in general, this is a great experience to look into. It's an IRS sponsored program to help low income families fill out their tax returns for free. It's great for internships, and has flexible hours. Plus, if you are reading this and want to get your taxes done for free and are possibly a poor struggling college student, check this program out! Here is the website: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=107626,00.html . I'm hoping that my schedule works out and I can do this again in 2012.
I think that's it for today. I hope this has given you, the reader, a better idea of who I am and where I'm coming from. Now that I have gotten those awkward introductions out of the way, we can start really digging in to subject matter. What shall I tackle? Let's leave that little mystery until next time. Bwahaha
Until next time....
